Maspalomas beach

Maspalomas mapMaspalomas is located on the south point of Gran Canaria. The town has gradually become integrated with Playa del Inglés and the two constitute one of the biggest holiday resorts in Europe.

The beach in general
Playa de Maspalomas is one of the best beaches in Gran Canaria. The beach is 5-6 kilometres long and up to 100 metres wide, so the fine, golden sand beach has plenty of room.

Most families with small children use the beach furthest to the south near the lighthouse Faro de Maspalomas. Here you will find all the necessary facilities and there is also a small seafront with restaurants and shops. Closer to Playa del Inglés, there is an official naturist beach.

Behind the beach, you will find the famous Maspalomas desert, which is almost a miniature edition of the Sahara with its wavy dunes. An outstanding natural experience and therefore also a conservation area. It is possible to ride through the desert on camels!

It may be difficult to find parking spaces close to the beach. The best place to park is in the streets a bit away from the beach, and remember a parking slip!

Child-friendliness
There is almost infinite room to play and the beach near the lighthouse is fairly well protected against waves. However, the water is not very shallow.

Water sports activities
There are no water sports activities at the beach in Maspalomas. However, there is a wide variety of water sports activities at the next beach in Playa del Inglés.

Maspalomas as a holiday resort
Maspalomas is known for having hotels of a somewhat higher standard and a bit more expensive than Playa del Inglés. Many of the hotels are built as family-friendly bungalows. A fantastic hotel near the southern tip is the 4-star all-inclusive hotel Abora Catarina. Very good guest reviews.

In the centre of town, you will find the large Faro II centre with many shops and restaurants. The nightlife is rather quiet in Maspalomas, but the most hectic nightlife in Gran Canaria is found nearby in Playa del Inglés.

Holiday World
Holiday World

When it comes to activities, Maspalomas is in a league of its own. It is home of the greatest amusement park in Gran Canaria, Holiday World. The park has roller-coasters, bumper cars, carousels and a 27-metre-high ferris wheel. Or how about Aqualand Maspalomas, the biggest water park in Gran Canaria with an area of 100.000 m² and not less than 33 water slides.

You can also enjoy the lovely golf course Campo de Golf de Maspalomas. It is located right next to the dunes and has hosted several international tournaments.
