Las Canteras

Las Canteras mapLas Palmas is an exciting city with its old town, rich cultural life, excellent shopping and a wide selection of cafes and restaurants. At the same time, Las Palmas has a wonderful beach.

The beach in general
Playa de Las Canteras is one of the Canary Islands’ best beaches, and many believe it is one of the best urban beaches in Spain. A wide promenade with many shops, cafes and restaurants runs along the beach. A good place to have a good lunch and enjoy the view.

Playa de Las Canteras

The northern part of the 3 km long beach is called Playa Grande, and it is the most family-friendly part of Playa de Las Canteras. Here you will find many sections with sunbeds, playgrounds and calm bathing water. There are of course also toilets and showers.

One of the things that makes Playa de Las Canteras very special is the natural reef La Barra approx. 200-300 meters out in the water. The reef protects the beach from large waves, and at the same time hosts a rich underwater wildlife. It is possible to dive and snorkel at the reef, but great care must be taken near the sharp rocks.

Child friendliness
In the northern part of the beach there is calm bathing water, rarely waves and usually plenty of space to play on the beach.

Water sports
In the southern part of the beach, called La Cicer, there is no reef in front of the beach. This makes La Cicer very popular among surfers. There are several surf schools close to the beach where it is possible to rent equipment and get surf lessons.
