Puerto Rico beach

Puerto Rico mapThe holiday resort Puerto Rico is located in the sunny south-western part of Gran Canaria. The distance to the international airport is 47 kilometres with motorway all the way.

If you want to stay close to the beach, we recommend the very popular Marina Suites, which has stylish rooms and a stunning infinity pool.

The beach in general
Playa de Puerto Rico is a lovely beach with golden sand imported from the Sahara. The water is shallow and very well protected by the piers, which almost surround the beach.

The beach is almost 300 metres long and has good facilities, including sun lounges, sunshades and showers. It has better toilets than most other beaches.

If you would like to try another beach, it only takes 25 minutes to walk to Playa de Amadores, which is an even nicer beach. For guests who do not like to get sand between their toes, there is a pool area with a restaurant behind the beach.

Child-friendliness
The water is shallow and there are rarely any waves. The beach has plenty of room to play and these things combined make it a very child-friendly beach.

Water sports
It is possible to try most types of water sports near the small harbour next to the beach. Including parasailing, banana boat, stand-up paddling and jet skis. There is also an experienced diving centre near the harbour, which arranges diving trips for beginners as well as skilled divers.

Beach restaurants
There are many restaurants by the wide sea front. You will also find a beach café in each end of the beach, so there are many options to buy food and refreshments.

Puerto Rico as a holiday resort
Puerto Rico is the second largest and most sunny holiday resort in Gran Canaria. Originally, the town was a small fishing village, but in the 1970s, people became aware of the perfect climate and the hotels started popping up. Later on, the hotels started to climb up the mountains.

Puerto Rico has a wide selection of restaurants to meet all price ranges and tastes. These are primarily concentrated around three areas: the two centres ‘Puerto Rico shopping centre’ and ‘Europa’ and down by the beach. The best restaurants include the Italian restaurant Cosi Come Sei, Minanas and the rather informal Grill Costa Mar.

You can find many activities in Puerto Rico, so there is never a dull moment. Many people go on boat trips, with regular routes to Puerto Mogan and Arguineguin. People interested in fishing can go on a day trip and fish for big species such as marlin, swordfish, sharks and tuna.

There are also many activities for children, particularly the Angry Birds Park, which is a lot of fun. In the centre of town, you will also find a lovely park with a playground, carousels etc.
