Playa Taurito beach

Playa Taurito mapPlaya Taurito is a small and relatively quiet holiday resort on the southwest coast of Gran Canaria, between Puerto Rico and Puerto de Mogán. The resort is built around a narrow valley, with hotels rising up the cliffs on both sides and a fun water park located just behind the beach.

It is especially popular with families and couples looking for a compact resort where the beach, hotels and activities are all within easy walking distance. In Playa Taurito, LIVVO Hotels Valle Taurito & Waterpark is a good choice thanks to its spacious rooms, good facilities and central location close to both the beach and the water park.

Playa Taurito beach in general

Playa Taurito beach is a man-made beach with dark volcanic sand mixed with some small stones. It is not one of the largest beaches on Gran Canaria, but it works well for visitors staying in Playa Taurito. There are sun loungers and parasols for hire, and toilet facilities are located right behind the beach.

Although the beach is partly sheltered by breakwaters, sea conditions can vary depending on the wind direction. On some days, the wind can create large waves, which are great fun for older children (and some adults), but unsuitable for the youngest children.

Child-friendliness

The beach is easy to reach from the hotels, and there is plenty of space for children to play. However, the dark sand is partly mixed with small stones, and families with young children should keep an eye on the beach warning flags.

The water park behind the beach is one of the main reasons why many families choose Playa Taurito. With its pools, slides and other attractions, it provides plenty of entertainment and is a fun alternative or supplement to a day on the beach.

Water sport activities

Playa Taurito offers a surprisingly good range of water sports for a relatively small resort. At the water sports centre on the beach, visitors can try activities such as jet skiing, parasailing and banana boat rides. There is also a dive centre in the resort offering diving courses and excursions for both beginners and experienced divers.

We have tried parasailing here with our children, and it turned out to be a fantastic experience. The views of the coastline and the mountains behind Playa Taurito were spectacular.

Beach restaurants

At the back of the beach, there are several cafés and restaurants where visitors can enjoy lunch, drinks or an ice cream during the day. Many of the cafés and restaurants also offer sandwiches, snacks and drinks to take away, making it easy to enjoy lunch from the comfort of a sun lounger.

The holiday resort Playa Taurito

Playa Taurito is a compact and easy-going resort built mainly around hotels, family activities and the beach. In the centre of the resort, you will find a well-maintained area with a few shops, a supermarket, bowling, tennis, mini golf and a small botanical garden.

The resort is known for its large pool and water park area. Together with all the sports facilities, this makes Playa Taurito a particularly good choice for families who want plenty of activities within easy reach.

The atmosphere is quiet compared with many of the larger resorts on Gran Canaria. Nightlife is very limited, and evening entertainment is mostly found in the hotels. If you want a wider choice of restaurants, shops or a livelier harbour atmosphere, Puerto de Mogán is only a short drive away.
