Meloneras beach
Situated in the south of Gran Canaria, next to Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas, Meloneras is an elegant holiday resort and without doubt the most luxurious on the island. Nowhere else on Gran Canaria will you find so many luxury hotels, such a beautiful seafront promenade or quite so many expensive cars.
One of the best locations in Meloneras belongs to the 5-star Lopesan Costa Meloneras Resort & Spa. The hotel overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and is only a few hundred metres from the spectacular beach in Maspalomas. It features several large pool areas, including one with an artificial beach, as well as all the luxury you could wish for.
Meloneras beach in general
Most tourists staying in Meloneras take advantage of the nearby beach in Maspalomas. It is a unique beach, with the famous Maspalomas Dunes as a backdrop, and is within walking distance of most hotels in Meloneras.
Meloneras also has its own beach, Playa de las Meloneras, located in the western part of the resort. The beach offers sand, good facilities and plenty of space to relax. Sun loungers, parasols, showers and toilets are available, and during the high season lifeguards are on duty.
Behind the beach runs the attractive seafront promenade Paseo de las Meloneras, lined with restaurants, cafés and tourist shops. The promenade continues all the way to the lighthouse in Maspalomas and is one of our favourite places for a walk by the sea, with beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean along the way.
Child-friendliness
The large sandy beach offers plenty of space for playing, including ball games. However, the nearby Maspalomas beach may be a better choice for families with young children, as there are quite a few small stones along the shoreline in Meloneras.
Water sport activities
Meloneras is not known for water sports activities, but the neighbouring beach in Playa del Inglés offers a wide range of options, including jet skiing, parasailing and banana boat rides.
Beach restaurants
There are several cafés and restaurants along the promenade behind the beach. Many also offer sandwiches, snacks and drinks to take away and enjoy on the beach.
The holiday resort Meloneras
Meloneras is widely regarded as the most exclusive holiday resort on Gran Canaria. Over the years, the area has developed from a quiet coastal area into an elegant resort known for its luxury hotels, stylish restaurants and well-maintained surroundings.
One of the things we like most about Meloneras is the atmosphere. Compared with many other holiday resorts on Gran Canaria, Meloneras feels more relaxed and sophisticated. The wide seafront promenade stretches for several kilometres along the coast and is lined with cafés, restaurants, boutiques and luxury hotels. In the evening, the promenade becomes one of the most pleasant places on the island for a stroll by the sea.
Meloneras is located right next to the famous Maspalomas Dunes and within walking distance of the historic Maspalomas Lighthouse. The resort is also a good base for activities and excursions. Nearby attractions include Aqualand, Holiday World and Palmitos Park. Golf enthusiasts are particularly well catered for, with two golf courses within a few kilometres of Meloneras and another located around 10 kilometres away.
Although Meloneras is best known for its luxury hotels and upmarket atmosphere, it is not only for couples. Families will also find excellent accommodation, good facilities and easy access to some of the best beaches and attractions on the south coast of Gran Canaria.
