Bahia Feliz beach
Bahía Feliz is a small and peaceful holiday resort on the south coast of Gran Canaria, around 7 kilometres north-east of Playa del Inglés and 23 kilometres from Gran Canaria Airport. The resort’s name means ‘Happy Bay’, which suits its relaxed and easy-going atmosphere rather well.
Unlike the larger resorts further west, Bahía Feliz is compact and centred on a handful of hotels, a small commercial centre and an open stretch of Atlantic coastline.
Bahía Feliz beach overview
Playa de Bahía Feliz is mainly a pebble beach, although several sandy areas have been created in front of the hotels. The largest offers a pleasant place to relax, with open views across the Atlantic Ocean.
There are stones along much of the shoreline and on the seabed, so water shoes are recommended. Sun loungers and parasols are available in the main sandy area, but facilities on the beach itself are otherwise fairly limited.
A coastal promenade and footpath lead south-west through Playa del Águila and San Agustín towards Playa del Inglés. It is a pleasant route for a walk, although covering the entire distance is a fairly long outing.
Child-friendliness
The beach is not among the most child-friendly in southern Gran Canaria. There are stones both on the beach and in the water, and the seabed becomes deep relatively quickly in places. Wind and waves can also make bathing conditions less suitable for young children.
Water sports
Windsurfing is one of the main attractions in Bahía Feliz. The wind and open coastline provide good conditions, and the water sports centre at the beach offers lessons for different ability levels as well as equipment rental.
There are no conventional resort activities such as jet skis or pedalos, which helps the beach retain its relatively peaceful atmosphere.
Restaurants at the beach
El Chiringuito is a small, cosy café beside the main beach. The area around it is our favourite spot in Bahía Feliz, with palm trees, a small stretch of sand and uninterrupted views across the Atlantic. It is usually wonderfully peaceful, and the café has outdoor tables overlooking the sea, where we love to sit and enjoy the view over a café con leche or a cold drink.
Bahía Feliz as a holiday resort
Bahía Feliz has a relaxed atmosphere and is much quieter than nearby Playa del Inglés. The small resort centre has several restaurants and cafés, a supermarket and a few shops. The selection is sufficient for a peaceful holiday. Those wanting a somewhat wider choice of shops and places to eat will find it in nearby San Agustín, while Playa del Inglés offers a far larger selection as well as livelier nightlife.
One accommodation option that stands out is Sport Hotel Monte Feliz – powered by Playitas. As the name suggests, the hotel specialises in active holidays and offers an unusually wide range of sports facilities. It is also well suited to families, with studios and apartments, a children’s pool, a splash area and a playground.
Evenings in Bahía Feliz are generally quiet, although Garbo’s provides a notable exception. Its musical dinner show combines a meal with live singing and dancing, with the performers also serving the guests. Programmes and performance dates can vary, so it is advisable to check the current schedule before visiting.
Nearby attractions include Sioux City Park, a western-themed park with shows and activities for families. Gran Karting Club is also located in the Bahía Feliz area and has separate outdoor circuits designed for different ages and levels of experience.

Bahia Feliz map
Playa de Bahía Feliz can be seen in the centre of the map, with some sandy sections along the otherwise rocky coastline. The resort centre lies approximately 200 metres north of the beach and is home to most of Bahía Feliz’s shops, restaurants and cafés. The neighbouring holiday resort of San Agustín is located around 2 kilometres to the south-west.
