Amadores beach
Amadores is a relatively small and quiet holiday resort on the sunny south coast of Gran Canaria. Although it feels relaxed and uncrowded, the resort has grown considerably over the years, with hotels and apartment complexes overlooking the beach and the Atlantic Ocean.
Amadores beach in general
With its bright sand, turquoise water and palm trees lining the beach, Playa de Amadores is considered one of the most beautiful beaches on Gran Canaria.
For many years, there have been rumours that the sand was imported from the Sahara Desert, but in reality the white sand at Playa de Amadores was imported from the Caribbean. In addition to its fine, bright colour, coral sand has the advantage that it does not become quite as hot as ordinary sand.

The coral sand gives the water its beautiful turquoise shades, and the large breakwaters in front of the beach mean that the sea is usually very calm and waves are rare. The 500-metre-long beach has all the usual facilities, including sun loungers, sunshades, showers and toilets. Behind the beach, there is a seafront promenade with a fine selection of restaurants and tourist shops.
Visitors arriving by car can park in one of the two large car parks close to the beach.

Child-friendliness
The sand is perfect for playing, although ball games are not allowed at Playa de Amadores. The water is usually calm, but it does not stay quite as shallow as on the neighbouring beach in Puerto Rico.
Water sports activities
At the western end of the beach, near the pier, it is possible to rent pedal boats and jet skis. If you are looking for a wider range of water sports activities, the beach in Puerto Rico offers more options.
Beach restaurants
Along the seafront promenade behind the beach, there are plenty of restaurants, cafés and beach bars. They serve everything from light snacks to full meals, and many of the restaurants remain open into the evening. It is also possible to buy sandwiches and other takeaway food to enjoy on the beach.

Amadores holiday resort
The resort of Amadores has grown over the years, especially with hotels and apartment complexes built on the hillsides above the beach, but it still feels more like a beach area than a traditional town.
There is no real town centre in Amadores. Most of the restaurants, cafés and shops are found along the seafront promenade behind the beach. For a wider choice of shops, restaurants and evening entertainment, Puerto Rico is very close by. Puerto Rico has several shopping centres, a marina and a much livelier atmosphere, which makes Amadores a good choice if you prefer to stay somewhere calmer but still want easy access to more facilities nearby.
Amadores is especially popular with families and couples looking for a comfortable beach holiday in peaceful surroundings. One of the best hotels in Amadores is Gloria Palace Royal Hotel & Spa, which offers beautiful sea views, a separate children’s pool and a popular spa.

Amadores map
The map clearly shows how well Amadores Beach is sheltered from the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. From the beach, a scenic coastal path leads to Puerto Rico. We have walked this route many times and always enjoy the beautiful views along the coast.
